Thursday, 20 February 2014 by admin

Conneticut Winter Storm DamageNow that the snow storms have settled down a bit, most homeowners and business owners thought that they were in the clear. Thinking that the snow would just melt and everything would go back to normal would be highly unlikely for most across the state especially those located in Fairfield, Middlesex, New London, Hartford and Litchfield County. The best advice is pull snow off your roof 4 to 5 feet above the gutters. Flat roofs on commercial buildings present different issues.Connecticut saw several building collapses from the sheer weight of the snow after two major back to back storms. The town of Vernon even called in the National Guard to deal with problematic snow build up on several schools with flat roofs.

Policy Holder Tips After A Storm Hits

Thursday, 20 February 2014 by admin

Sump pumps:  It is important to check the sump pump in your home. Make sure that is is able to turn on and off and  look inside to make sure there isn’t any debris or obstructions inside.Ice On home from Snow Storm

Ice dams/roof leakage: An ice dam occurs when water builds up behind a blockage of ice. A snow rake can be used to scrape excess snow off a rooftop. You can carefully shovel snow on your own, but remember that rooftops are extremely slippery and dangerous. Warning: Do not try to chip or break off ice in ice dams yourself, because it could damage the gutters or shingles.

Water in the house: In order to remove excess water from your home, try mopping or blotting. Take upholstery cushions out for even drying. Place aluminum foil or wood blocks under furniture legs; hang furs and leather goods separately. Don’t use a regular vacuum cleaner to remove water, and don’t turn on ceiling fixtures if the ceiling is wet. Keep out of areas where the ceilings are sagging or retaining water. Do not turn on appliances that were submerged in water. Photograph everything and make sure that the date is time stamped on the photograph.

Inclement weather puts a major toll on homes and businesses with both interior and exterior damage. Most of the items mentioned above are likely covered under your homeowners policy. Your policy states that you must notify the insurance company within 14 days of the loss. The insurance company will send out their own adjuster to evaluate your damage. Most people have no idea what is covered under their policy and what they need to do to move forward. Contact All American Public Adjusters today for a free claims evaluation for your property damage.
Public Adjusters are licensed and bonded by the state to protect the rights of policy holders against the insurance company. A public adjuster will assess your damage, help file your insurance claim, review your policy, provide you with an estimate for your loss, and deal with the insurance company directly to get you the maximum settlement so that you can bring your property damage back to it’s pre-loss condition.

Public Insurance Adjusters deal with Freezing Temperature Claims

Wednesday, 19 February 2014 by admin

ice dam on roofBlizzard-like conditions are expected throughout the northeast from Washington to Boston. Heavy snowfall will spread from St. Louis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Charleston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Boston, Cape Cod, and Portland at approximately an inch a minute. While the snow is falling, winds will pick up to near freezing temperatures causing homes and businesses to experience an array of damages.

Some things that policy holders should look out for:

-Power outages causing sump pump to fail or back-up causing flooding in homes and businesses

-Freezing pipes – Once thawed, will cause pipe breaks/bursts and flooding/water damage, structural damage, and mold

-Flooding – Once snow and ice start melting, the water begins flooding homes/businesses

-Ruined carpets and water damage to your ceilings and walls from leaks caused by ice dams or bursting pipes

-Roof Damage – From ice dams that accumulate ice at the lower edge of a sloped roof, usually at the gutter, ice builds up and blocks water from draining off the roof causing water to be under the roof covering and into your attic or down the inside walls

Many of the above mentioned losses are covered by insurance companies. Filing a claim, although it sounds easy, is VERY tricky. The verbiage that is used when filing a claim can get you a denial immediately if not explained correctly. Most homeowners or business owners are not familiar with their policy and what is covered, let alone the details of their damage and the cost to repair or replace their lost items.

Public Adjusters are licensed and bonded by the state to help policy holders with their property damage claims. A public adjuster can review your policy, estimate your damage, and deal with the insurance company directly to conduct inspections and negotiate a fair settlement for your property damage claim. Whether you have already filed a claim or have a claim and don’t know what to do next, we can help. Contact All American Public Adjusters for your RISK FREE claims evaluation.
